Money Lesson Plans for Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4

KS2 to KS3: Looking After Your Money – This personal finance lesson plan aims to explain the concept and functions of a bank to students. It will help your students understand the concept of keeping money safe, and making their money “WORK FOR THEM”, by putting it into an account.

KS2 to KS3 - Budgeting, Spending and Saving - The primary aim of this money lesson plan is to explain the concept of budgeting and goal-setting, and to reinforce the benefits of saving.

KS3 - Calculating Commissions - This KS3 money lesson plan will help you teach your pupils about commissions and how to calculate sales commissions. It also includes a commissions calculation worksheet, with answers. It can be used during a maths, business studies or financial capability lesson.

Money Management Activities for Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4

Budgeting for teens (Key Stages 3 and 4): Applicable to all teenagers and those in Key Stage 3 and 4, this activity encourages teenagers to start taking control of their money by budgeting and having a savings plan. It includes a MoneySmart Spend Tracking sheet and provides step by step instructions on how to create a budget that works. Teenagers that have used this soon learn that, with a savings plan, budget and healthy dose of patience, their buying power actually increases! It can be used to support lessons on personal finance and budgeting.

Savings and Investments (Key Stages 3 and 4): Appropriate for Key Stages 3 and 4, this is a great resource for helping teenagers understand the cost associated with university, the effect of compound interest over time, the benefits of keeping track of what they spend their money on and getting into the habit of saving some of their money. This can be used to supplement a lesson on Savings and Investments, and given out as a handout.
